Abstract

A numerical analysis of impact-contact problems with friction using the finite element displacement method is described. The solution algorithm of those nonlinear problems requires an iteration process for the determination of contact forces and interfaces in each time step. The time integration of the discretized equations of motion is done by using several algorithms. During the impact process contact interfaces can occur contemporary locally separated. The appearance of friction in the contact interfaces is taken into account within the iteraction process using the law of Coulomb. Comparative studies of the different algorithms are presented for the longitudinal impact of bars. Impact-contact problems of spherical shells are treated. For these examples the impact forces and the contact stress distributions are presented. (A)
