Thermodynamic Topology and Materials Optimization
- Development of variational approaches for the thermodynamic optimization of the topology of construction parts and engineering structures
- Development of novel and numerically advantageous concepts for regularization to avoid the checkerboard phenomenon
- Consideration of material and geometrical non-linearities as, e.g., fiber reinforced materials, hybrid materials systems (steel/concrete, 3D print), hyperelastic materials (rubber)
Stochastic Material Behavior
- Development of novel approaches to modeling the stochastic behaior of elastic and inelastic materials, e.g., creep behavior in concrete, polymers, metals
- Development of improved finite element formulations to accurately compute the local and global stochastic quantities as stress distribution and nodal forces
- Generalized formulations
Damage Mechanics
- Development of numerically advantageous regularization methods to avoid mesh dependencies in finite element simulations
- Coupling of damage evolution to other microstructural processes as, e.g., plasticity, hardening, phase transformations
