3. GACM Colloquium on Computational Mechanics

From 21st to 23rd September, 2009 the '3rd GACM Colloqium on Computational Mechanics' took place at Leibniz University, Hannover. Being introduced already in 2005, the main objectives of these colloquia are to provide a forum for young researchers in the field of Computational Mechanics to present their latest research results and to exchange ideas and network among each others. The Colloquium is organized mainly by young scientists and it is intended mainly for young scientists to participate, which is expressed by the motto “from young people, for young people”.

Being successful in 2005 (Bochum) and 2007 (Munich), the 3rd GACM Colloqium in Hannover this year again attracted more than 160 young researchers coming from the industry and sciences. Besides the main lectures held by Prof. Thomas J.R. Hughes, University of Texas in Austin, Dr. Burkhard Wies, Continental AG and Prof. Stefanie Reese, University of Braunschweig, many mini-symposia were held related to the fields of biomechanics, fracture mechanics, fluid-structure-interaction, contact mechanics, mathematical as well as multi-scale methods. Dr. Holger Eggemann also reported about the promotional concept of Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) for young scientists.
