Abstract

In this contribution a method is described in which discrete and finite elements are coupled. This methodology is applied to the virtual testing of granular materials but also for the frictional contact with third bodies at the contact interface. The different aspects of the coupled formulation are discussed and its applicability is shown by means of examples which include modeling of granular materials and their behaviour in penetration processes, but also homogenization for frictional laws.
